WERU FULL CIRCLE SUMMER FAIR

As I’ve mentioned before I volunteer for our local community radio station up here, WERU FM. First off, if there is a community radio station in your area, I can’t recommend enough getting involved with it however you can. It’s a great community builder and a great way to hear new voices and music.

But the purpose of this post is a blatant little plug for WERU’s Full Circle Summer Fair this summer on July 24 & 25 at the Blue Hill Fairgrounds. I’ve been working for MONTHS with people booking the acts for this fair and we’ve got a great lineup.

A few highlights:

  • We have 3 stages of music & speakers over two full days.
  • This is a benefit fair for WERU, and almost all the musicians are donating their performances at this fair.
  • This isn’t just a folk festival, we’ve got music of as many genres as we could find; folk, traditional, bluegrass, indiegrrl, jazz, blues, rock.. and more.
  • Speakers: Local activists and nationally recognized speakers will be speaking this event.
  • Vendors: WERU invites local non-profits, agricultural, arts & crafts, holistic health, sustainable living and of course a wide variety of food vendors. It’s a nice eclectic selection of information and products you wont find at most other fairs.
  • Even for non-WERU members admission is $12.. TOTAL… For 2 days of entertainment! If money is really tight then volunteer for a few hours and get in free, and get a free T-shirt to boot. Free camping for volunteers also if you want.

    Just to drop a few names;

  • Christine Lavin – The queen “bitchin’ babe” herself
  • Devonsquare
  • David Mallet
  • Billy Jonas (doing 2 childrens shows (one each day) and an all ages show)
  • David Barsamian – Of ‘Alternative Radio’, keynote speaker.
  • Contra Dancing – For beginners and veterans
  • Shape Note Singing Group sing/workshop

… and lots lots more. I’m working on the fair webpage which will have the full list with bios, but trust me, there’s a very diverse lineup. The URL for the fair page is http://fair.weru.org/ but it’s really quite sad right now, I’ve been busy booking acts, but I’ve started making updates, stay tuned for the fancy site in the next week or two.

I realize that 99% of the people who read my journal are not in or near Maine, but if you were ever pondering a trip up this way, this would be a great weekend to come up. I’m gonna be busy helping with the fair that whole weekend and Emily & Owen will be at it alot too, and will also be hanging out with family, so I can’t say it’s the best weekend to visit us per se, but we might have couch / guest room space available.

So to sum up, it’s going to be a killer music festival, I can’t recommend it enough, mark your calendars and come on up!
