ARRR! Shantey CD’s

This week I mailed off the first batch of the ‘Trio O’ Sea Shantey & Drinking Song CD’s’ to the folks who requested them from my comments on this entry on anarqueso‘s journal. Note this offer still stands for anyone else willing to trade mixes or really anything in exchange for these CDs.

I also mailed off one set of the Antioch Mix CDs I offered in an earlier note, and since they acknowledged it’s arrivals the Shanties must have arrived also.

I did the minimalist distribution of these CDs, just scribbled their title with a sharpie on the CD and stuffed them in a box. No notes, no fancy liner notes with color pictures of drunk sailors at the mizzen, just boring CDs.

So I’m posting this here with the track listings and a brief description of each CD. Actually this is a slightly annotated copy of a note I sent anarqueso a few weeks ago. I’m posting this so I can e-mail the strangers I’ve sent unlabeled CDs to a note where they can read more about the unusual music that will soon be spewing from their speakers 🙂

I may elaborate on this and do the level of detail I did on the Antioch mixes at a later date, explaining where I found each shanty, why I like that version over others etc. but that’s wicked time consuming. And also, it’s more fun keeping it mysterious, not knowing who or why the next track was included.

If anyone wants more detail on any track or musician, feel free to ask.

Below are the track listings a brief summary of each CD;

I threw 3 cds in the mail yesterday morning (priority mail). Note – They don’t have fancy labels, jewel cases and jackets. Just boring CD-Rs with my scribble on them. Also, nothing else interesting in the envelope, i’m boring 🙂 Contents of the CDs may or may not be boring depending on your tastes. I find them pretty exciting myself, but then again.. that’s me.

Also, The 3 CDs overlap a bit. One was custom made for you yesterday, the other two I just couldn’t resist throwing in, but some songs are on both (or maybe all 3)

The 3 CDs are:

Shanties F’ar Drumsong – A collection of shanties I like , or wanted to share. Note this includes two ‘bawdy’ ones by Oscar Brand. I have a tape somewhere of more stuff by him but the songs involve raping mermaids and cabin boys, so I can only stomach them on rare occasions, and certainly dont have digital copies. The two I put on this mix are relatively tame compared to the above mentions but just wanted to warn you, though compared to some of your friends LJs they are rated G 🙂 .
