Rapture Me!

Saw this in another person’s blog (Jim Gilliam) the other day and I’ve been thinking about it alot. Very disturbing.

Rapture Me!: “

Bill Moyers is getting set for retirement, and he gave the speech of his life last week. Forgive me for quoting this huge passage:

One of the biggest changes in my lifetime is that the delusional is no longer marginal. … How do we explain the possibility that a close election in November could turn on several million good and decent citizens who believe in the Rapture Index?

That’s what I said — the Rapture Index; Google it and you will understand why the best-selling books in America today are the 12 volumes of the “Left Behind” series that have earned multi-millions of dollars for their co-authors, who, earlier this year, completed a triumphant tour of the Bible Belt whose buckle holds in place George W. Bush’s armor of the Lord. These true believers subscribe to a fantastical theology concocted in the 19th century by a couple of immigrant preachers who took disparate passages from the Bible and wove them into a narrative millions of people believe to be literally true.

It’s no coincidence that Bush’s education initiative was called “No Child Left Behind.”

Muppets

My highlight today – Putting in a Muppet Show DVD, and having Owen (my 15 month old son), who has never seen it before, immediately laugh, clap and dance on the opening theme. Ahhh… that’s my boy. I LOVED the Muppet Show when it was out, I would even take my father’s tape recorder and hold it near the tv to get an audio recording of the show so I could listen to it later (this was pre-VCR, at least for our house).

A few years ago I saw Kermit on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart(seriously) and he said a new Muppet Show was in production and should be out in a year or so but I never heard anything else about that.

Then of course in February of this year the Henson folks sold their soul to the devil and Disney now owns the Muppet Show. I suppose this could be a good thing if they put money into it and let the right people produce new stuff, like the new made for tv Muppet Wizard of Oz. We’ll see.

Also, if you go to the supposed new home of the Muppets on the web it has a count down to the ‘new site’ release. Wonder what they are up to?

For now I just want to get some more of the DVD’s they’ve released of the old series. Instead of releasing full seasons, they have made ‘best of’ DVD’s that feature 3 full shows each. This is a step forward from the best of tapes they had in the 90’s that just had skits from lots of different shows.

I would also love to get copies of the Muppets Tonight TV show from the late 80’s but there’s little hope for that if they wont even release all the original Muppet Shows.

Anyways, just felt moved to mention the Muppet’s. Fun stuff, the old shows hold up even after 25+ years.

Also just found this site that seems to be news about Muppet stuff, ToughPigs.Com. Even mention of a band in SF area that does muppet covers… the “Dead Hensons” 🙂 Cool. Think they’ll tour to Maine ? 🙂
